SENIOR ASSISTANT COACHING APPOINTMENT
With Gordon "Jack" Sumner stepping down from the role to spend more time with family, the club is very pleased to announce BRETT HARTMAN has been appointed as a non playing senior assistant coach to Chris Murphy for season 2014.
Brett, an EFL life member is no stranger to many at Silvan. Brett played a pivotal role in helping our club secure our first ever back to back senior premierships in 07 & 08, taking our senior premiership tally to nine. He continued to play senior footy at Silvan with our move into the EFL. Where Brett past the magical 300 EFL senior game milestone, to earn him league life membership.
Brett's coaching & playing career spans many years. His first taste as senior coach was at Coldstream, taking the Cougars to the 2001 4th Div premiership, to go with a runner up in 3rd Div in 2003. (We now play Coldstream for the "Brett Hartman Sheild" in honour of Brett's contribution to both clubs.)
Brett then made a move to 2nd Div club at the time "The Basin" where he won a League B&F in 1995. He then moved to North Ringwood where he played in the Saints 1999 2nd Div flag. Brett then moved on to the senior coaching role at The Basin in the mid 2000s before arriving at Silvan in 07.
With Brett's proven coaching record, along with his very astute football brain, he will no doubt help our playing group get the best out of themselves as we strive to experience premiership glory again! Brett will not only be Chris Murphy's right hand man on game day, he will also serve as "Chairman of Selectors" during the week. Brett & Chris Murphy have a long history together in football and both have similar philosophy's on how to develop & promote youth. As well a keeping the more experienced guys enjoying their footy and always looking for ways improve them.
Even though Brett has been involved at many clubs over his football journey, he calls Silvan his "home club." He's extremely passionate about our footy club and is looking forward to helping us grow in the EFL.
It's with this we welcome Brett, Jenelle and young son Jett to this official role at Silvan. And wish him & family every success in 2014.
The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Jack & Renata for their efforts in 2013 and look forward to seeing them at Silvan in the not to distant future. Thanks Jack!
