The Management Committee of the Noosa AFC has announced the appointment of a senior coach for two seasons (2014 and 2015) with an option of a third season.
James Gellie comes to Noosa after a long and distinguished career in Victoria.
From 1997 to 2011 he played over 200 games in the Hampden League, based in South - Western Victoria. During this time he played for the Mortlake Football Club from 1997 - 1999, Camperdown Football club from 2000 - 2009. At Camperdown he played in the 2000 premiership side, captained the side from 2003 - 2006 and was Best and Fairest in 2007. In 2010 James moved to Cobden Football Club where he played for 2 seasons. During his 15 years in the Hampden League he represented the League 5 times.
James started coaching in 2007 when he was senior playing coach at Camperedown Football Club for two seasons. In 2010 and 2011 he was playing coach at Cobden Football Club. Also in 2010 - 2011 he was the Hampden League assistant coach in the VCFL country championships. 2012 - 2013 saw James going to the Geelong Falcons (TAC Under 18 competition) as assistant coach.
James told us that through constant communication with Ken Hinkley (Post Adelaide Head Coach) and Gerald Fitzgerald (North Ballarat VFL Senior Coach) he has developed a great knowledge of current AFL trends.
He was recommended very highly by top level players Scott Lukas (Essendon) and Sam Chapman (All Australian Player). According to the chairman of the selection panle, some of James' very strong points were that his articulation was great with the message he was delivering, that he had a clarity on what is needed in modern football to gain optimal outcomes and that he provided an authentic and concise philosophy and application.
The selection panel took into account James' professionalism, the fact that he has been involved, at a high level, with Under 18s teams and the fact that he is very family oreinted when making their recommendation to the club's management comittee.
