Dear Panton Hill Football Club Community
SUCCESSFUL 2013 SEASON FOR THE PANTON HILL FOOTBALL CLUB
It's been a terrific year for the Panton Hill Football with our first senior premiership in 58 years. The club set high expectations for itself this year and the journey as always involved a lot of hard work from a lot of people with significant community and sponsor support. It was made even more difficult with the club being off its home ground for a season while it was being reconstructed. However, the hard work has finally paid off with a thrilling grand final and an eventual one point win over a gallant Watsonia. The Reserves were also tremendous in the second half of the season and just missed out on making it two premierships for the club with an 8 point loss in the grand final, also against Watsonia.
The season was then capped off nicely at the Panton Hill Hotel on Saturday 21 September with the presentation night which saw the best and fairest awarded to young gun Nathan Hendry who unfortunately was unable to play in the grand final side due to injury. Three players reached important milestones throughout the year, including club captain Will Box with 200 senior games, Ben Strongman 150 senior games and Daniel Pratt 200 club games. The club was also recognised at the recent NFL awards evening with six players named in the NFL third division team of the year and Ben Finnin finishing as the league leading goalkicker.
A special framed grand final edition print including key photographs of the premiership has been prepared and is available for purchase from the club for $85. Send your details to Scott Walker (scott.walker@banyule.vic.gov.au) or call him on 0412 257 537 to arrange to purchase one. A special event will be held in late November to recognise the premiership side and provide them with a club memento. Further details to be announced shortly although the tentative date is 23 November 2013.
Whilst the 2013 season is over there are some important community and club events that we'd like to let you know about and encourage you to attend. Details are available on the club website (www.pantonhillfc.com). These events include:
- Food and wine degustation evening at Wellers Restaurant on Friday 11 October 2013;
- "On the Hill Festival” from 11am throughout the afternoon in Bishops Road Panton Hill on 27 October 2013;
- Annual General Meeting @ the clubrooms from 7pm for a 7:30pm start on Wednesday 30 October 2013;
- CFA dinner dance at the Panton Hill Hall on 9 November 2013; and
- Grand final recognition dinner – Saturday 23 November 2013 (TBC).
Your attendance at the AGM in particular, as we plan for next season will be very beneficial to the future of the club. After the success of 2013 we must now consolidate in the much stronger second division. With our move back to Cracknell Reserve in Panton Hill our facilities for players will be excellent. However, a new coaches box and scoreboard is to be built over summer which will require funding and in-kind support. Any assistance that can be provided to help complete the project would be appreciated.
Thank you for the part you have played in the success this season and we look forward to your support into the future.
Yours sincerely
ERIC GRIMSHAW
