Re: Queensland Community Football Restructure
As most of you are probably already aware a restructure of Queensland Community Football has occurred. The first step was a survey of all clubs in which we participated. From this a new structure was determined and all clubs were invited to apply for the top tier competition which was renamed the QAFL.
This competition was to be made up of 4 clubs from the NEAL who had not had their licences at that level renewed and 6 clubs primarily from the Allied Pickford Cup.
The club submitted an application for this competition which included audited financial statements, budgets, strategic club development plan and a response to specific questions addressing areas of club governance, finance, brand/culture, performance, facilities and strategic plan.
On Tuesday of this week we were interviewed by a panel convened by AFLQ. During this interview we were able to put questions to the panel and they were forthright in their answers including areas where decisions had not yet been reached.
During this process it became apparent that we did not have the required information to determine what financial impact entering the QAFL would have on our club. As a result our application was withdrawn.
Whilst we acknowledge that some will see this as a back ward step the Board makes no apologies for withdrawing this application as our first responsibility is to provide sound governance and to ensure the longevity of our club.
The Springwood Australian Football Club has prided itself for many years now that it is one club, no single team or player more important than any other and this decision has been made with the welfare of the entire club in mind.
Should you have any further questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate in contacting me.
Yours faithfully
Andrew Hickman
