Finals – Week 3 – Sunday 22 September
Last week ended with mixed results after losses in our 2nds and under 18’s and the B Res, under 17’s. In a way it’s great cause now we’ve got someone to watch this weekend, hence saving us all from those nagging chores that are piling up.
Commiserations though to our teams that have hung up their boots for 2013, A Grade, B Grade and the Twos and thank you for the dedication throughout this season.
The epitome of dedication was reflected in the effort of our senior player and ruckman Jake Reeves, playing last week after the loss that morning of his mum Tracy. Throughout Jake’s footy journey, Tracy has always been his pillar, taxi, PA and number 1 fan, and she would have been very proud to see him playing last Sunday at Benalla.
Thank you to all our loyal travellers for being there all year and please stay with us for the grand finale next week. Get your red and black ready to wave. As for today, get on board and help our teams over the line. Let’s hope for 4 teams through to the granny. Go Bombers.

Now, back to the footy, our boys were good enough to get past Shep United in the 2nd semi final at Benalla last weekend and earned themselves a week off and spot in the big dance. The boys were on right from the first bounce holding a 19 point advantage at the first change and extended that to a commanding 33 points at half time. Some great football was played in the third team by our mob and by the final change of ends our lead was out to an unassailable 66 points. After kicking the first goal of the final term Dirty decided to rest a couple of the boys knowing that we had done the hard work and booked our spot in the GF. United pinned a couple of goals back and the final margin was 42. Becky starred at CHF kicking 5 goals and was named best while Paulo booted 4 majors. Tackle Gang member Nick Holman played a superb game and continues to impress in the red n black while other midfielders in Oggy, Reevsy and Sqwiffee Linton put in quality games. To this point we have done everything right and given ourselves an opportunity to play in a Grand Final but unless we come out with a win it is all forgotten and I can assure you that the lid is well and truly on... For now anyway. Go Bombers!
Ressies
Unfortunately the fairy-tale of our twos side could not keep going as we fell to Benalla by ten points last weekend. It was an arm wrestle all day with the final scoreboard reading Benalla 58 to Ky 48. Not one person who saw the game could doubt the endeavour or effort of our boys but ultimately we were beaten by a better side. The 'best' players as recorded were Bernie Wiggs, Tommy Curnow, Nelso, Mango, Dirty-Mac and Beauy Runnalls. When you take a moment to reflect on the season our twos have had it is quite impressive considering of where they have come from. In the previous two seasons the boys managed only 4 wins and to be within 10 points of a preliminary final is a great achievement. The entire Club and every single person who followed the team would be proud of the season our scooby-doos have had. Well done to coach Dirty-Mac and all involved. Hold your heads high boys!
Under 18’s
Our boys knew we would have a tough fight on our hands and that’s just what we got. Benalla did enough in a very physical hard fought contest to keeps our boys at arms length and get the win by 14 points. Matt Ryan excelled again up forward with 8 majors, Parky toughed it out down back along with his partner in crime Wildy, Muelz was busy as usual with Ogg Dog running himself ragged to round out the best. We now turn our focus on this weeks rivals the Shepp Bears on Sunday at the”D” with the winner advancing to the big show next Sunday. ‘GO BOMBERS’ make us proud….
17/Under
It was a tough day at the office for the Baby Bombers, with an injury to Carlie Whitford causing a disturbance in the line-up. Before that the game was mostly even with Kyabram just able to get the better of their Seymour opponents. However with the injury, the team were reshuffled causing problems in their play. Both teams were neck and neck at half time before Seymour ran away with a strong third quarter to set them up for the last. Goalers for both teams were very accurate on the day, making opportunities rare to come by. Despite winning the last quarter, the Bombers went down by three goals however will look to next week when they have a final shot at making the grand final. Final Score: Kyabram 45 defeated by Seymour 48. Best: Elivia Hall, Natalie Dillon and Elly Schumann.
B Reserve
Under hot conditions Kyabram got off to a good start, keeping their opponents on their toes as they fought hard to come out on top. In a low scoring half Kyabram were just behind United, down 11-15 at the end of the first half. However from there things didn’t look up with mistakes allowing United to break away. Down by two goals at the final break Kyabram gave it their all to try and get back in front however a dominant 12-2 quarter by United allowed them to have a comfortable victory. Final Score: Kyabram 23 defeated by Shepparton United 35. Best: Liz Jackson, Katie Cordingley and Lori Niven.
