Open Message to SMJFL Community
You may recall back in July this year I sent out an open message to the SMJFL Community in relation to Offensive & Abusive Behaviour. I am pleased to report that in the main our community has responded well to this message, particularly during the recent finals series.
To build on and re-enforce this message, the Board and Administration is exploring a number of initiatives that we will further develop, in conjunction with our clubs, in the off season. These will be presented to the Club Presidents at the AGM in December. The aim will be to incorporate any agreed initiatives into our By-Laws for the commencement of the 2014 season.
To confirm the Leagues zero tolerance approach on this issue, I can also report on the conclusion of an ongoing investigation of a parent that was found guilty of breaching the 'Parents and Supporters Code of Conduct' of the SMJFL By-Laws. As such the parent was:
1. Suspended from attending any SMJFL match for five (5) SMJFL football seasons (2014-2018), with three (3) of the five (5) SMJFL football seasons (seasons 2016-2018) to be served as a suspended sentence.
2. Suspended from participating in any team official or match official capacity at any SMJFL match for five (5) SMJFL football seasons, with three (3) of the five (5) SMJFL football seasons (seasons 2016-2018) to be served as a suspended sentence.
This penalty should reinforce our commitment to penalise any form of offensive & abusive behaviour towards any of our players and umpires.
Finally I would to congratulate the SMJFL Community for what has been a very successfully season on and off the field for all our clubs, players, umpires, officials, parents, supporters, partners and administration.
Best Regards,
Roger Teale
