Peter Gleadhill has taken out the Tom Fisher Award as the club’s Best and Fairest in 2013. Mark Seccull was Runner Up, while Michael Stowe was third. It was a tight race, with the result coming down to the last game of the year. Peter had a fine year, polling votes in nearly every game and so being clearly rewarded for his consistency. As co-captain, he took on a lot of responsibility and this award caps off a fine year for him. Well done “Gledders”
Mark Seccull also had a fantastic year and he clearly enjoyed taking on the rucking duties and being surrounded, and assisting with the development of the younger brigade. Michael Stowe’s football has continued to improve. As well as coming third in the Best and Fairest, he won the award for the Most Determined in recognition of the tasks he was invariably given each week.
Other award winners were –
Adam Weekes – The Lil Paul Award for Most Consistent. Adam is about to head off to Ireland with the VAFA side, highlighting what a terrific season he has had. Vocal, passionate and determined, Weeksey is a fine clubman and worthy winner of this award
Alex Woltering – Peter 'Zeke' Davies Award for Most Courageous. “Alfy” has had a great year in his first full year of senior football. Fearless on the field, he was prepared to attack the footy at all times.
Travis Ridgway - Goal Kicking award. For the third year running Ridgy has topped the club's goalkicking. Well done Ridgy.
Best First Year Players - GW Patterson Memorial Trophy for Best First Year Players -James Paul and Joe Fisscher. Both lads played football which belied their age and have been rewarded for their commitment throughout the year. They helped form the nucleus of a young but well oiled backline, while Joe had stints learning the ruck trade.
The winner of the Reserves Best and Fairest was David Mackenzie, who defied injuries during the year to don the magenta and black and be a very worthy winner of the trophy. DMac chalked up his 200th game for the club and this award, is another feather in his cap.
Runners Up was Richard Mathers. Matho played a number of fantastic games, bullocking his way through the midfield, and opening up opportunities for his team mates and can be congratulated on another fine year.
The award for the Most Consistent Player for the year in the Reserves was Nick Leonides, whose football has been continually improving over the last couple of year. Nick enjoyed playing more in the midfield and this has been reflected in him receiving this award
The T.M Lyon Trophy for U/19s Best and Fairest was Ben Traeger - Haig who battled gallantly all year, being asked to take on the opposition best players and often play out of position. Ben is very passionate about his football and the club and there is bound to be more awards for him in years to come.
Runner Up was Julian Conte who also had a very solid year. Another player who wears his heart on his sleeve, he gave his all for the Bloods. Important to note that both Traegs and Julian both made the Divisional Rep side - well done guys.
The Coach’s Award went to James Ried. Despite having some injuries, James played every game and was instrumental in bringing new players to the club and getting the side on the paddock
Most Improved in the U/19s was Same Somers. Sam played his first year of Australian Rules and showed a real love for the game. He attacked every contest with enthusiasm and continued to improve throughout the year.
Michael McKinna took out the goalkicking for the U/19s.
The Best and Fairest in the Thirds was James Werrett with Luke Skelton being Runners Up. Both formed the backbone of a Thirds team that recorded a number of wins in the inaugural season of the club having a Thirds team. Well done to both players.
The Coach’s Award in the Thirds went to Ben Langford – Jones, in recognition of his enthusiasm and passion for the game.
On the night David Mackenzie and Luke Pitcher were rewarded with Life Membership in recognition of them playing 200 games for the club. Both have been fine clubmen down the years and will undoubtedly continue to be so going forward.
Peter Seccull was also awarded Life Membership of the club. Peter has been involved at the club for over 25 years. Over the journey he has been a Barry Berggy recipient, Service Award winner, team manager, time keeper and of course an avid supporter for all that time. He has seen premierships and relegation – a lot of highs and lows. While there are strong family ties, the recipient, as an individual, has contributed enormously to the club – a club we know he is extremely passionate about.
Andrew Hicks was also granted Life Membership, in recognition of his efforts as player, committeeman and runner since 1981.
