"THE GREAT CHRIS GOODLET"Today after four years at the helm, Goody informed the Club that he will be standing down as Senior Coach of the Silvan Football Club. Whist this may come as a shock to many, Goody has decided he needs to spend more time with his young family. And feels the time is right to allow a fresh voice to come in and take our Club into the future. Goody is leaving the role on his own terms. (Something not many coaches get to do) Im pleased to say the bond between Goody & Silvan is probably stronger today then it's ever been! After a successful playing career at Silvan which saw Goody captain our 07 & 08 premierships. Chris took over as Senior Coach in 2010. At that stage the club was struggling on field with the loss & retirement of many senior players. Chris knew he was in for a tough ride, but not once did he deviate from what he wanted himself and the club to achieve. In Chris's first two years of coaching Silvan, the Club on...ly won 3 games. Just about every senior coach out there would've pulled the pin after two years like that. Not Goody! Chris's dedication to our Club & his players drove him to believe in what had been started, and see it through to the end. Our last two seasons has seen the Club rise up the ranks, finishing 3rd on the ladder in both years. Our playing group has a fantastic blend of experience & youth, and Chris has managed to build a solid and exciting foundation for the next coach work with.
The true way to judge a coach is not by how many premiership he's won. But if he's able to leave a Club in better shape then how he found it. The rise and success of our Club over the last four years can be directly attributed to Goody. Goody's passion and unrelenting desire to improve our Club is unquestionable! As a role model, to old & young alike, we've been blessed to have Chrissy at our mighty Club. Goody is a legend of Silvan. And our Club will always be indebted to his enormous contribution over the last 9 years. To further prove Goody's love for the mighty Cats, he has shown every indication that he will play at Silvan in 2014. After the season he's just had, one can only imagine what level he may achieve without the load of coaching the Club on his shoulders.
We thank you Chrissy, your a credit to yourself & family. We are all better off for knowing you mate! We all look forward to celebrating your amazing career at Presentation Night next week.
