SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon Constructions
Now that the home and away entrée has been served, it’s time to bring on the main course… Finals are what every team looks forward to and our hit-out against the other Dogs was a timely reminder of what we are capable of against any opposition when we have our minds on the job. Whilst the Gilbert boys worked extra hard and combined together as sometimes only brothers can, this was really one of the SFL’s great individual performances against the lads from Highett. Bagging 16 goals in an awesome display of skill, athleticism, aggression and flair, Luke James is set to ignite the final series as he is one Dog who can really get off the leash. When the game opened up Callum Cathcart went into the middle and won himself plenty of the Sherrin and along with Timmy Blackwood and Mark Marrasco we led the way in defence.
RESERVES – Sponsored by Total Waste Management
After an inaccurate display in the first term where we posted 1 goal 10 behinds the boys really combined extra well from then on to set up many scoring opportunities. Trigger up forward was the obvious target and his return of 9 goals was a great return coming back from injury. Johnno the ‘Colac Express’ reminded selectors of his class with a polished display including two hangers and several scintillating runs through the middle where he burned off opponents. Rhys Peet was solid as was the Skipper Glenno returning from injury. The boys are primed for a massive run at the finals and will be looking to consolidate on that performance where our slick ball movement was a real highlight
Under 19’s V Carrum Patterson Lakes - Sponsored by the Cushion Lounge
In an entertaining game against a vastly improved and well drilled Carrum Patterson Lakes. We managed to just stay in touch but on the scoreboard at ¾ time we trailed 39 to 61. It took a huge mental effort but the last quarter lift in intensity around the stoppages led by Carlos, Beauy, Michael, Birdy and Gem saw us gradually gain momentum and kick the last 5 goals of the match to eventually get up by 6 points. Taylor Mancal who shifted forward was dangerous with 2 goals and Braggers efforts were rewarded with the winning goal. Well done to all of the boys in particular young Liam Herbstreit who really stepped up when asked.
