Our first week of finals resulted in a 100% success rate with all three sides winning. A fantastic effort be all involved. It is only a start, but the perfect start. The Seniors & Reserves both can get to the Grand Final in next week’s 2nd Semi Finals and the Under 19 boys are 2 wins away.
The seniors did not play their best footy and the game, despite the fabulous weather, did not reach great heights due to overwhelming inaccuracy around goals by both sides. That all said, we did not go there to put on a show. We went there to win.
The highlights were those produced by a our more senior players, particularly Kris Bardon and Matt Greig, who reminded everyone just how could they could be when it is finals time at Bayswater. Although not a veteran ( as described on the EFL Web site) , Dean Millhouse, was just impassable all day in defence with his wonderful marking skills and judgement.
The Reserves put on an exhibition game that has rarely been seen in a finals game at any level. Their play was so superior it looked like a total miss match. They did have an incredibly talented line up with the only players missing in Michael Sonsie and Andy Hackett.
To have four regular seniors in Grant McCarthy, Paul Chadwick, Travis Bird and Xavier Barry-Murphy in the lineup with the outstanding skills of Andrian Gileno (eight goals) up front and Nick Carrodus in the ruck along with a host of up and coming youngsters was just a wonderful combination. Or was it brilliant Coaching by Jeff Rudd. ????
The Under 19 boys have been through hell lately, but with the inclusion of Andy Hackett and their running brigade finding form and enjoying the big Ringwood ground. Things got a lot better.
Well done to John Harley and the team.
