It was cold wet and windy day to finish of the minor round for season 2013, but there was some hot action on the ground in what was a good day of in and under tough footy.
The Mini Mozzies finished off their season and we hope to see them all back again next year. Junior footy is alive and well with strong numbers and even stronger enthusiasm from the young lads all year. Once again a big thanks to Justin who has done a tremendous job with the lads all year.
The Junior Colts struggled in the difficult conditions. Their marks were not sticking and they had trouble making tackles against the larger Pt. Mac bodies. On a positive note the coaches were pleased with the endeavour and there are definite improvements in our wet weather footy. Best players were Lockie C, Eddie B, Ben S, Thomas V, Cory G and Connor W. The team should hold their heads up and the club and supporters are proud that you have managed to get into the finals. Good luck to Darcy Hogan, Lachlan Collyer, Cory Gamble and Tom Tukia who have been invited to the league presentation day tomorrow.
The Senior Colts were in for a tough match against the ladder leaders but they were far from disgraced in a hard fought contest. Both sides were missing players and with not much to gain for either side, putting up a good showing and getting players through unscathed were the main objectives. It was good to see all players getting involved and special mention to Dyl V, Ridz, Ash Buts, Sam Wal and Dyl M who got plenty of the ball and Jacob Gregs was lively up forward. Our form during the year has been a little inconsistent but now we are at the business end of the season we must step it up a gear, and with the thought of each game being our last I'm sure the boys will give it a red hot go. Good luck to Andrew Ridley, James Wallis and Dylan Vanderhorst who have been invited to tomorrows Junior League presentation day.
The Reserves bowed out for the season after a really tight low scoring affair with the lads from the Bay. Ferg showed his class all game and along with his brother Adam were in the best players. Zain got best and was taking grabs like it was a dry day and he worked hard around the ground. Spog, Turtle and Jordon all got in the best and played well in the average conditions. The Ressies can hang their boots up for the season, some might be for good, but we must thank Scotty Les who
has done a great job all season and managed to pull together a competitive side against the odds.
Good luck to Ferg and Scotty Les who have been invited to Monday night’s League presentation night.
The A Grade took the field knowing a win would secure them a finals spot and a loss opens the door for Tant to replace them. Pt. Mac certainly started better picking up plenty of uncontested possessions keeping our backline under constant pressure but our players started winning more of the ball and using it well up forward. This continued for the rest of the game with both teams showing plenty of desperation and applying great pressure at the ball. In the end the burr boys couldn’t bridge the gap and with Tant winning we missed out on playing finals but the players can look back and be proud of their efforts over the season. Good luck to Brodie Hennink, Clint Gallio and Dylan Ridley who have all been invited to the league presentation night.
Thanks to all who donated and purchased items at last week’s ‘Goods and Services auction it was a really good night and we raised some much needed funds for the club. Even though the minor round is finished there is still plenty happening. Of course we will be hosting the Second Semi next week and we are looking for helpers on the day and getting ready for the day. If you can help let Adam, Finchy or Justin know and they will point you in the right direction. Also we would like to congratulate Dylan Gamble who made his league debut for Glenelg last Sunday. Our club Presentation Days will be Seniors: Friday 20th Sept; Juniors: Sunday 22nd Sept. Good luck to our U13 and A Grade netballers and our Junior and Senior Colts footballers for their finals campaigns. Thanks to our 2013 major sponsors, Blackbird Industries, Whitty Engineering, Ranui Transport, J&A Scrap Metal Millicent, Fosters Foodland, Fasta Pasta, Steeline Mt Gambier and Bladerunner Turf.
