The Noosa Tigers played there last home game for the year on the weekend and it was against one of their fiercest rivals, Palm Beach. The two teams have played out some ripping games over the past few year including the 2011 Grand Final which saw the Tigers win in a very physical game.
The Tigers introduced another debutante this weekend. 17 year old Nelson Daugalis made his first appearance for the senior side on the back of some strong reserves games. Nick Jones was also a welcome return to the side, after getting over a niggling calf injury, along with Tim Storrer coming back into the side.
It was alway gong to be a huge ask for the Tigers to match Palm Beach, who most regard as the Premiership favourites. The first quarter didn't start the way the Tigers wanted as Palmy piled on the pressure and slammed on 4 goals in the first 10 minutes. Alex Corrigan was working hard across the wings and was rewarded for his efforts with the opening goal for the Tigers and closely followed by a big Tim Storrer mark and goal. Palm Beach kicked 2 more goals to go into the first break with a good lead.
Palm Beach 6-5-41 to Noosa 2-1-13.
The second quarter was one to be forgotten, as Palmy kicked 6 goals to none to take the game right out of Noosa's reach. Harry Opie was doing a great job on the Palm Beach full forward and Benny Fuller was providing heaps of run out of the back pocket. Steve Simpson was giving our onballers first use and Cubby Isles was getting plenty of the ball. At the main break Palm Beach lead by 67 points.
Palm Beach 12-8-80 to Noosa 2-1-13
After the break Palm Beach kept up the pressure to add another 5 goals to the score and Noosa could only manage 2 points. Shane Davis was showing plenty of spirit as he layed four tackles and put on a massive shepherd in an attempt to lift the boys. At 3/4 time Palm Beach's lead was 99 points.
Palm Beach 17-12-114 to Noosa 2-3-15
The final quarter was the only shining light as Noosa out scored Palm Beach, only slightly but they did out score them! Peter Trompf worked himself into the ground and Seb Rogers was taking some big grabs and created plenty of run. But in the end Palm Beach were too strong and ran out winners by 97 point winners.
Palm Beach 21-13-139 to Noosa 6-6-42
Better players for Noosa were- Harry Opie, Ben Fuller, Steve Simpson, Shane Davis, Alex Corrigan, Peter Trompf
Goal kickers - Tim Storrer 3, Owen Bailey 1, Peter Trompf 1, Alex Corrigan 1.
Next week the Tiger play the final game for the season in Brisbane against Wilston Grange. Last time we played Wilston Grange we went down by 5 points in a great game of Footy, so there is a big chance we can finish the season with a win.
