SENIORS
Panton Hill kicked the first goal within a couple of minutes of the first clearance which set the scene for a fast game of football in quite good conditions despite the rain during the week. The Hills moved the ball very well around the ground all day but the Hawks pushd back to clog the backline in an endeavour to restrict the score. The Hills struggled at times against this tactic but with such a negative mindset The Hawks couldn't find an option up forward even when they held possession. The Panton Hill backline were terrific in the absence of Will Box and Ben Strongman who were both missing and Jeremey Gercovich who left the ground with a knee injury half way through the game. In fact, Heidelberg West kicked their first and only goal after the final siren. Tyler Scarce, Simon Amore and Abe Williams were tremendous in the midfield along with Nathan Hendry until he left the field with a hamstring strain. Joffa Byron was the key player running off the backline and this ultimately helped Nick Lowther across half forward and Ben Finnin at full forward who kicked 5 goals to keep himself on top of the goalkicking table. The other key performer was Tristan Kreymborg contuing his important role in the ruck contests and around the ground. A solid win for the Hills as they look to polish up against Reservoir next week before taking on Watsonia in the first week of the finals.
RESERVES
In many ways today and next week are dead rubbers for the Reserves as they will head into the first week of the finals in the knockout first semi. However, a few players had something to prove to give themselves a chance of a finals game. A strong win in the end in an enjoyable day of football. Lucas Groves was handy again as a small forward finishing with 4 goals. Matt Layt continued his good form on the wing of Heidelberg Park with other key perfromers including Frank Trianta, Jamie Padget, Ben Hibberd and Simon Gunn in the open spaces. Brett Middleton also played a great game in the ruck.
