SENIORS – Sponsored by Total Waste Management
With a big crowd in attendance, Stkilda City put enough inside pressure to cause the boys to overuse the footy in the first 3 quarters. T-Mac’s form down back continues to impress along with Matty Herbs manic ability to shut down good players each week and win his own ball. The move of Mark Marra into the ruck was telling as we piled on 7 majors in the last term to take the game away from the City and back into the suburbs where it belongs. Jarryd Allan returned and his dash & long kicking were damaging whilst the ‘Swingman’ Ryan Smith’s inclusion added a touch of silk despite Ricky Martin-Allan trying to take him on a ‘journey’ at both ends.

It was a solid 4 quarter effort which was led by our inspirational captain Glenny Balmforth. He either forgot his Lynx deodorant or probably more accurately upped his running work-rate off the ball to simply leave his opponent in his wake and gasping for air on about 15 occasions. The efforts of Bryce Hayes, Macca, Browny and Wyldy also allowed Tim ‘Bomber’ East to enjoy a nice supply of quality footy into our forward 50. Chrissy Vail was clean with the footy under pressure and Clemmo’s kicking action alone is a reason to come to the footy each week. The 60 point margin was a good result for Rogers, West and Co

Once again a familiar game pattern played out. We held a small lead at three quarter time in a high quality game of footy. The restriction of having no interchange continues to hurt us and with a few injuries during the match we were left with 16 fit men and simply ran out of legs. Coach Herbstreit was proud of his boys’ efforts and in particular Marty ‘Numbers’ Clements who put on a dazzling display out of defence. Tim Roberts 4 goals and the work of Jaz Blenkinsop and Paul Toolongs at the stoppages was also telling and gave us great drive.
