The Sandgate masters were at home last weekend against Redcliffe Tigers. A large turnout by members had the bench full and provided a headache for both Peter and Willow doing the interchanges, to ensure all players had a decent run on the paddock.
The first quarter started evenly with Sandgate goals to Ridgey and Nails. Was good to see Beefy (Kev Weldon) back on the paddock- was matched up against Jammo, who he coached when he was younger. We regrouped at quarter time and came out firing with 3 goals to Butch and another to Shirls. The centre group was playing tight and Kevin was rucking superbly. We went to the main break up by 27 points.
The defence by Sandgate was solid in the 3rd quarter with Carts continually spoiling possession and delivering out wide and even bagged a goal. Phil also kicked a goal in the period. The final quarter saw us outscored by a goal, with goals from Nails and Bails. Unusual not to see Middy and Timmsy on the goal kickers for the game, but they did more than their share in the backline.
Once again, it was a consistent game by Sandgate, though we are looking forward to putting 4 solid quarters of football together.
Final Score Sandgate 10-6-66 Redcliffe 4-5-29
Mug- Carts
Top Effort- Sock
Thanks to all the support staff on the day.
Next game Round 4 at home- see you on the paddock, if you are financial.
