Lightening Premiership Under 9 Gold
PREMIERS in 2013
What a tremendous day is was on Sunday with the chill in the air but the sun shining in our faces we were in for 3 very hard contested matches. By all reports the grounds were in perfect condition considering the rain we had the day before. I felt like all the skies aligned for us on Sunday and there wasn’t really a lot Annemarie and I had to pass on only to make sure the boys knew their position and which way to kick. Glen warmed the boys up with perfect timing and gave them the motivation to get going each game. One of the most important things I have been saying to the boys in last half of the year is to find the “fire in the belly” to WANT to get the ball and WANT to work really hard as a team. I believe confidence in this rough and tumble game is everything and our boys bought their confidence and ‘A’ game on Sunday which meant anyone standing in their way better look out. It was truly the most amazing 3 games of Under 9 football I have ever seen. They really really wanted to win and this shone through in all 3 games. We were very blessed that all 3 games we kicked with a very strong wind and I asked the boys to use the wind to our advantage and try to get 3 or 4 goals on the board in the first half. Most impressively they did this as they streamlined the ball out of the centre into our very busy forward line.
However, it was the second half of each game that got the crowd and the official bench excited (yes Wes I could hear every word). Our boy’s defensive game was so spectacular, so much so we not only stopped one team from scoring any goals we actually kicked goals against the wind in each game. Talk about tenacity the boys showed this throughout 6 halves of tough football and never once took their foot of the pedal. Steve and I have focussed on putting a full game of football together and how important this is and I think the boys have learnt a few lessons over this year. I can honestly say I never been so nervous and to have Annemarie’s calming influence on day was wonderful. For the last 2 seasons I know our boys were destine to show everyone just how good they can be when they are truly switched on and they lived up to this and more on Sunday. This was a wonderful team effort of ALL the boys under 9 Gold putting their little hearts and souls into every kick, mark and run down the ground. Well done boys you truly deserve the win on Sunday this was not about luck it was an indication of the growth in your skills, your determination to work together as a team and your growing confidence. It is amazing what can happen when you truly believe in yourself.
Dream big and reach for the skies!!
