SENIORS
The seniors started strongly and dominated the play to kick the first couple of goals to look dangerous in the first quarter on Saturday against St Marys. However, the Burra entered the game with a different game plan and clogged up the backline pushing their players back and then spitting the ball out wide and fast. This was an effective tactic which slowed the Redbacks scoring and produced a number of goals for the Burra despite only having limited possession. However, the game plan was risky and came unstuck in the second term as The Hills capitalised on the turnovers and brought the ball forward with terrific teamwork and some solid marking and goals up forward by both Benn Finnin and Callum Still, each finishing the game with 5 goals and Callum Still being named best on ground. The running players through the middle were once again tremendous for the Hills including Anthony Bryce, Abe Williams, Jarrod McGough and Kane Gilmore as the side cruised to an 11 goal win. Jayden Neilson also played a great game as the second ruck and down back in one of his better games for the season. The Hills now look to hone their skills on the big Heidelberg West ground next week as they head towards the finals.
RESERVES
A disappointingly slow start for the Hills against the Burra on saturday at Whatmaugh Park with the home side kicking 3 goals and The Hills kicking just one point for the first quarter. From there the Redbacks worked their way back into the game and trailed by a goal at half time. The five point lead that the Hills had by three quarter time looked wobbly in the last quarter and it took a Lucas Groves goal on the siren to kick the winner and get the Hills over the line by 3 points. Best players for the day came mostly from the midfield with Adam Anderson in scintillating form along with Simon Gunn and Brett Aldred. Andrew Jackson did his job in the ruck, Matty Layt kept running on the wing and Anthony Kidd continued his good form up forward.
