No Oracle this week and apologies for the belated update. The weekend’s games were all played in wet and wild conditions of which we haven’t seen for some time. But Princes Park was in pretty good condition except for the cricket pitch area. Scores were level at quarter time even though we probably had more of the play than the visitors. We certainly had more inside 50s but were unable to exert any scoreboard pressure.
The second and third quarters followed a similar theme. We were short in the big man department (sic) and they were getting on top. We only scored the one major for the quarter. Sean Corrigan and Gledders had good halves while Collo was showing why he had been missed over the last few weeks.
While the intensity increased in the third quarter, there was nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Forward forays were few as Fitzroy dictated the tempo of the game. Indeed as the scoreboard reflects, most of the play was between the respective half forward lines. As the conditions deteriorated, clean possessions were few.
The intensity picked up in the last quarter as the Bloods began to get first use of the football. We kicked the first two goals of the quarter and there was just a sniff of revival. Sec was providing first use of the ball, which the likes of Hammer, Pinot and Collo were enjoying. But as the seconds ticked away, the task became more difficult. A goal to Fitzroy at the 20 minute mark essentially put an end to any chances of a late charge although the boys fought it out to the final bell.
In summation, Fitzroy were the better side on the day and took full advantage of their opportunities. Finals football may be statistically possible but very unlikely. But there are five weeks of football to go and the players and the club as a whole is determined to finish the season on a high.

The Ressies went down by 18 points in a match that was close all day. Fitzroy kicked a couple late in what was a really good solid contest. The older brigade of Vittas and D Mac were amongst the better players while Raff relished the conditions and Nick Leonidis enjoyed his on ball role. Banga was great all day, snagging four majors.

The U/19s travelled to Old Paradians and getting off to a slow start, never fully recovered. The boys were undermanned from the start, but stuck to the task well and there was a bit of a flurry late in the game but it became a bridge too far.
Sammy Nicholls was good again, while Mick McKinna bagged three from CHF.
