What a great day it was at the Avoca Football Netball Club yesterday.
It was a great start to Baz’s 500th game after everyone had made a guard of honour for him to break the banner.
When the game started he marked the ball for a shot at goal just 10 seconds into the game, but unfortunately he was a bit astray with the kick, but he soon made up for it with his next shot. He finished with three goals for the game. Well done Baz!
The senior boys had a great fighting win in very wet slippery conditions, which set up a great feeling for the Reunion celebrations last night.
An absolutely fantastic night was had by all who attended our first social event in the new rooms and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in organizing the event.
Awards were made to Trevor for his 500th game and to Marie & Dawn Wardlaw who received Life Memberships for their special service to our club over 20 years as Ladies Committee members, and over ten years as Executive members of the Ladies Committee.
A couple of very surprised and happy ladies! Well done to you both!
Then it was time to recognize the 1993 Premiership teams with 1993 senior Coach Jim Jess making a speech, which was followed by a speech from 1993 President Terry Howell and both were warmly received. It was then time for Simone Field to take the microphone as 1993 captain of the A Grade netball team and she entertained the crowd with her normal outgoing exuberance, which was also very well received.
We thank everyone who made the trip, especially those people who travelled a long way. Danny Walsh made the trip from Darwin and it was great to see Woosha after such a long time.
Our local singer Tommy Barker warmed up the crowd with a great array of songs and he performed to the high standard of excellence that he usually does. Well done Tommy!
An Avoca Football Netball Club event wouldn’t be the same without the Lemon Tree and it once again was a highlight of the night.
Special thanks to Judy Walkley and Di Farnsworth in the kitchen and to anyone else who helped in preparing the meal. It is very much appreciated!
Also like to thank the young girls in setting up the tables and to Simone Field for all of her behind the scenes work and input into the organizing of the event, and to Scatter and Rhys Walkley for transporting the tressle tables.
These things don’t just happen, so we thank everyone who had any input into making the event such a success.
Thank you All!
