SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon Constructions
The match had 2012 written all over it as players went down with an assortment of injuries. A broken hand to O-Dog, a broken nose to Benny Mac, Mercs with concussion and Houston, well he has a problem. Despite the constant injury setbacks, we soldiered on with an asymmetrical attack which saw the Mac’s, Christian and along with Jay delivering the ball, down to LJ (5 goals). In the end, we take the 4 points, breathe a sigh of relief and get out of Dodge.
Clayton is not a good hunting ground for us and with an opposition hell bent on winning at any cost it’s a credit to everybody to withstand that last quarter and come out on top. Well done.
RESERVES – Sponsored by the Sandbelt Hotel
This was a tough slog but in the end, Clayton’s desire for the contested footy was better than ours. Despite the loss there some players showed good signs. Ryan Smith reads the flight of the footy as well as anyone in the club and when you combine this with his overhead skill and effective delivery, it’s a pity we don’t have 3 of him. The Eel ticked off another solid game and Jaz found some timely form with some hard running and snagged 2 majors. Time to regroup
Under 19’s - Sponsored by Total Waste Management
The boys’ use of the footy was very good despite the slippery conditions. Jeremy Muldoon was super impressive with his contested footy and was a clear standout. Bobby Carracher played a great game in the guts and is really reading the footy beautifully off both ruckmans tap-outs. Jordan Lloyd & Dylan Stewart both provided great run from defence as did Numbers (Marty Clement) and ‘the Colonel’ (Michael Constantinou) which helped setup a solid 80 point win.
NETBALL - St Paul's V Dingley – Sponsored by Eva Rose Hair Salon (12-42)
It was a tough day at the office for the netball team, going down to the well-oiled machine that is Dingley. Meg Geschke showed great stamina and support down the court, as did Caitlin Lewis. Eliza Barnes had her eye in today with a number of long-range shots from the edge of the goal circle. And despite the wet conditions, Dominique O’Sullivan managed to really put the pressure on the opposition’s tall shooters. We’ll regroup and bounce back next week.
