No Oracle this week so an abridged version of events at Gerry Green Reserve. This was a danger game against a side fighting to stay in Premier B. The boys got off to a good start, skipping away to a 20 point lead at quarter time.
However the hosts fought back well in the second quarter as things tightened up. Both defenses had been under pressure but were holding up well. The forward forays were generally rewarded with both sides accurate in front of goal. Ridgy had already shown he was in for a big day while the defence was being well led by Fisscher, Weekes and the mercurial Alkemade.
It was a similar theme in the third quarter, but we were outscored. Indeed Parkdale had won the second and third quarters and but our good start balanced this. At the last change, the home team held a one point advantage.
However it was all the Bloods in the last quarter as our better fitness, determination and confidence proved too good for the home side. We managed to kick three, while Parkdale were held goalless. Ridgy finished with a solid eight goals to take him to second on the Premier B Sharpshooter ladder. Mick Meehan kicked four goals while Mitch Rafferty was our only other goal kicker.
Joe Fisscher had a good game, ably assisted by co-skippers Hammer and Gledders.
The Reserves got back into the winning ways with a ten point victory. Case was sensational all day, while the evergreen David MacKenzie led from the front as he always does. Matt Mitchell returned from injury with a couple of goals, but it was a very good team effort that won the game for us.
The U/19s had a close game against MHSOB but a slow start and inaccuracy proved costly. The boys fought hard all day and late in the third quarter were getting right on top. It was a pretty tense game as both sides were exceptionally keen to grab the four points. But despite the best of efforts, they were unable to get across the line.
Tivs and Hamish McWIlliam were great all day, while Mick McKinna was fantastic in the third quarter to bring the boys right back into the game. The boys were really pumped for this one but were unable to get across the line.
