The Calder Cannons Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of Corporal Cameron Baird. Cameron was a part of the Calder Cannons Football Club program for four years between 1996 to 1999, participating in the TAC Cup for three seasons.
Cameron lost his life performing his duty in the Australian Armed Forces on service in Afghanistan.
All past and present players and officials of the Calder Cannons Football Club acknowledge his passing in defence of his country.
Our condolences go to Cameron’s family in this time of loss.
He will always remain a member of the Cannons family.
The Calder Cannons will wear black armbands this Sunday 30th July in our Rd 11 TAC Cup game as a mark of respect.
Cameron Baird’s Calder Cannons FC Achievements:
- 1996 Calder Cannons FC U15 Schoolboys Carnival Captain.
- 1996 Calder Cannons FC ‘Rookie’ Award winner (underage player award).
- 1997 played 6 games as 16 year old, kicking 7 goals for the year.
- 1998 played 20 games as a 17 year old, kicking 35 goals and receiving the Cannons Goal Kicking Award that season and receiving 8 Morrish Medal votes.
- 1999 played 9 games as an 18 year old, kicking 22 goals for the season, and was elevated to play one AFL Reserves game with Geelong.
