The under 10’s had a ripper game on Sunday morning under lights – yep, under lights at 8.30am, it was extremely foggy and impossible to see the other side of the oval , let alone the other end of the oval... but our brave young players put on their tops and their determination and gave Wallan a run for their money......
With the fog getting heavier by the minute, the temperature getting lower and the ground and kids slowly disappearing from our sight, the team defended fiercely. Wallan scored 2 goals in the first half and would have scored more if it wasn’t for the determination and courage of the team.
At half time, Wallan was up by 16 points and the fog was at its thickest – the team entered the rooms to be treated to warm water to dip their hands in and defrost. After deciding that they could beat this team they ran out of the rooms to blue sky...(bit freaky really) and kept the ball in the Redback forward line for most of the second half. The amazing team work allowed Jack Leete and Jed Watson to score goals and the awesome defence and tackling kept the opposition from putting a major score on the board.
It was by far the best performance of the season, even though the team lost by 7 points. The commitment, skills and team work were magic (even if the playing conditions weren’t) where every team member got a touch/possession.
Final score: Panton Hill 2 1 13 Wallan 2 8 20
Not a bad result, considering we only had 17 on the field.
