Reserves: The Tigers had their chances in the first half, but their errant disposal impaired their ability to have an impact on the scoreboard. Both the shooting for goal and field kicking left something to be desired. The endeavour was there but a refinement of the delivery skills was necessary before any real progress could be made. Just towards the end of the 2nd quarter the effort appeared to pay off with the visitors edging toward the front, but a late Cobden goal saw the hosts have the comfort of a 9 point buffer at the long break. Cobden edged out a 3 goal lead, but the Tigers steeled themselves and worked hard to bring the score down to a 3 point margin in the shadows of the last changeover. The vast proportions of the Cobden oval was going to test the fitness levels of both teams. It was the home side who made all the running in the early stages of the last quarter and they battled their way a lead of 2 goals, before the Tigers asserted their stamp on the contest and got to within 3 points. But again for the Tigers, it was heartbreak as the final siren found them short. Some honest goers for the Tigers with Cam Mather, Zane Wakely, Delwyn Beavis, Daniel Kinghorn, Stefan Barr and Dylan Adams being the more prominent.
Final Scores
Portland 7.12-54
Cobden 8.9-57
Seniors: A very keenly contested battle ensued from the two teams as each found it difficult to breach the opposition defences. The Tigers probably shaded it possession wise in the first term, but Cobden looked marginally sharper when moving forward. This was reflected on the scoreboard in the initial changeover with the Bombers in the ascendancy by 7 points. In the early stages of the 2nd term, again neither side was able to break the shackles. It was an absorbing struggle as both sides traded goals in an ebb and flow fashion. Towards the end of the quarter, Cobden forged to a lead of 2 goals only for Portland to slot a major right on the siren. The 2nd half was somewhat of a repeat of the first. For all of Portlands huffing and puffing, their disposal was again found to be deficient. It made the task of the forwards more fifficult and against an efficent set of defenders, this proved to be extremely costly. The last interval saw less than a kick between the teams, but the Bombers rallied strongly in the last term as Portlands energy levels began lose their impact. Thus the final phase of the game was all one way as Cobden underlined thier ability with some clinical footy skills. A worrying trend for Portland in their last 3 encounters is their inablility to finish off the contest for 4 full quarters. It could be put down to a number of reasons, but until the problems are rectified, wins are going to be rather hard to achieve. Best players for Tigers were Rhys Egan, Jaron Quinliven, Beau Bently, Daniel Falcone, Luke VanHeugten and Marcus Amor.
