It has been a while since our last outing at the Bay, we have had interleague and a holiday courtesy of the queen but now it’s back to business as we travel to Kongorong for what is turning out to be a very important fixture for all grades. Before we set our minds back to Pt. Mac a big thanks to all the players and supporters who came back to Fasta Pasta after the game, it was a great turnout and it makes a big difference when we support our sponsors the way we do.
The Mini Mozzies had a great game against Pt. Mac with eighteen players making the big trip. Big thanks to George, Will and Sam who offered to play for Pt Mac in the first half and to Aussie for the second half. We played a really good brand of team footy and it’s great to see the kids using the skills they are learning at training. There were a number of good Sheppard’s and bumps which helped with the kicking a big score. Congratulations to George being named best and well done to Bradley, Jett, Ella and Jordy who all played well.
For the Junior Colts unfortunately our trip to the bay didn’t go our way. Our tackling was poor, our kicks were off and too many easy bumps off the ball let Pt Mac score easily. Jack M and Damon stepped up and played some really good footy, both these lads are improving each week. The little bit of footy we were successful with helped Darcy get a goal. The runner didn’t help our game either by giving a free kick to Pt Mac for being in the square during the centre bounce. (Thanks wig). We need to be as confident in the wet weather and against the stronger teams, like we are in the dry and easier teams. We have had a break off footy so let’s listen hard to our coaches and concentrate on making the last half of the season as successful, if not better then the first half. Better Players: Ben Squire, Cory Gamble, Lachlan Collyer, Damon Koch, Jack Muhovics, Edward Ballantyne
The SENIOR COLTS took on one of the premiership favorites in the Demons and the lads were far from disgraced. Their attack on the footy has been a big improvement in recent weeks and this was evident against some of the bigger Pt Mac boys. They were right in the game for three quarters but it was the third term where Pt Macs bigger players showed there class and were able to build a good enough lead to hold onto. Billy, Nuffy, Jimmy Wal, Ash Buts gave their all once again, Dyl V had his best game in the colts while Captain Ridz stood tall down back repelling many Demon attacks. The boys can hold their heads high as there is room for plenty of improvement and with a bit more hard work we won’t be far off the pace.
An undermanned Reserves outfit got a bit of a footy lesson from the Pt Mac boys. Once again it was great to see a number of Senior Colts step up and help Scotty Les out. New player Zain Wallis is getting stronger each week and was best for the Burr. The old heads of Matt Les and Ferg continue to dominate and another newcomer in Marcus Thompson continues to impress. You get the feeling the reserves lads are not far off the pace and with a more regular line up could still play a part in September. We are still waiting for Robski to play his 50th as he was unable to play at the Bay so if he runs out today give him a big pat on the back.
The A grade had a good win down at the Bay in wet slippery conditions, when the heavens opened up in the first quarter we knew whoever adapted quicker to the conditions and got the score on the board were going to be in a good position. The boys were smart enough to play good wet weather football, keeping the ball moving forward, going long down the flanks, but the key for the win was the constant pressure we were able to apply for the game through our tackling, chasing and just harassing was first rate. Another important aspect was the role players had to play and the discipline they had to show to stick to it, job well done.
We give a Big Congratulations to Justin (Horry) Nowak today who will play his 100th game for the Burr today. A great achievement and well done. Tonight we head back to the Sportys Hotel for a club dinner. Once again let’s all get behind our sponsors and get back to Sportys for what is always a fun night.
Our next big function at the cub is our Fancy Dress Night which is on Sat the 29th of July and the theme is Emergency Services.
Thanks to our sponsors, Landmark Millicent, Ranui Transport, Blade Runner Turf and Sportys Hotel.
