Who would have thought? But we are halfway through the season already, it’s the old saying ‘time flies when you are having fun’. Today is our first venture to the coast for the year as the Mozzies take on the Demons in what will be a crucial clash for all grades. Last week it was the Saints in what was a very interesting day of footy.
The Mini Mozzies kicked off proceedings and also copped the only rain for the day with some light morning drizzle, but that didn’t dampen their enthusiasm. Coach Justin is doing a terrific job of introducing the U11’s to our wonderful game of Aussie Rules and with the excellent numbers of young lads at training and on Saturday the future certainly looks bright.
In the Junior Colts the young Nangas boys could have won this game, they were hungrier being first to the ball and working harder for the ball. The boys will need to be switched on for today’s top of the table clash with the Bay Boys. Better players 1st well done Ben S, 2nd MR G Cory G, 3rd Connor C, 4th Jack M, 5th Brodie G, an 6th Liam W. Ok that’s it for me short and sweet, LET’S GO U14 BURR BOYS.
The SENIOR COLTS came out to make amends for the previous week’s effort against the Doo. With Nangwarry being severely undermanned the result was always predictable but it was still pleasing to see the boys share the footy and have some fun on the field. Nearly all the burr boys had ago playing for Nangas which was great to see because you never know one day it may be us who need a helping hand and we must continue to keep all junior clubs in this league afloat. Special mention must go to Brodie Quintel and Benny Ballantyne who played a half a game for the opposing team. Once again it’s tough to choose best players when you’re winning but it was hard to beat Hayden Schultz effort of 10 goals. Today we front up against one of the top sides over the last few years and we must be committed in all aspects of the game to be competitive.
On a positive note there are 67 junior footballers playing at the burr at the moment so our future looks bright and with so many colts playing A grade this year we are confident that Mt Burr Footy success is not far away.
The Reserves had a tough game against an impressive Saints outfit. It was a tight tussle all game but the Nangas boys were able to make the most of their chances and kept creeping ahead on the scoreboard. Stevie Hughes tried all game and along with Ferg, Coach Scotty Les, Westy and Curso they never gave up. It has been a bit of a revolving door with the reserves playing list this season with lots of different players donning the jumper, but one player who was thinking of hanging up the boots this season and decided to go again and help Scotty out hasn’t missed a game and this week plays his 50th. That player is Robskie, so when you see him today give him a pat on the back for a job well done.
The A grade, with a strong last quarter, got the points in a game where each team were able to create
plenty of scoring opportunities and it was just a matter of which team could put enough defensive pressure on. Nangwarry jumped the Burr in the first quarter by winning the contested ball and running in numbers then once we got our hands on the ball we were able to move the ball decisively and gave our forwards plenty of opportunities. At times our team play and work for each other would probably match most teams
but we still need to improve our defensive pressure and being more consistent with our competitive efforts.
Just a reminder to all our supporters and players that memberships and subs are due. Being a payed up member of our club is one of the best ways you can support the club so if you see Ron or Finchy they can fix you up for membership. After the game today we invite all our supporters back to Fasta Pasta for a club dinner.
