Round 6 St Pauls V Cheltenham
SENIORS – Sponsored by Merkon Constructions
This was a grinding hard fought 33 point victory sparked by our frontline fighter himself in Liam Wilson. Willow always elevates his game when mental toughness is demanded and he didn’t disappoint taking out the Matt Rojahn Medal for best afield. Timmy Black-Caviar-Woods season is gathering momentum and along with the ‘Colac-Express’ Michael Johnstone their direct run off half back is hard not to like. A blockbuster day of SFL footy this week as both teams Seniors and Reserves start the day undefeated. Who will land the first blow for 2013? Go the DOG!!
Reserves – Sponsored by Total Waste Management
The Reserves continued on their winning way mainly due to the mix of ruthless experience and youthful energy. James ‘Crash’ Marasco (6 goals) is splitting packs and wreaking havoc up forward whilst T-Mac is clearly pushing for senior selection and looks ready to go. Down back, whilst the elusive Ben McCarthy was dancing around opponents, the Eel and Pauly Tolongs were both on-song from the get-go. It was great to see big bustling James Clement back and Glenno getting into the action. The Grand Final replay V Dingley shapes as a ripper
Under 19’s - St Pauls V Bentleigh - Sponsored by the Pearo’s Plumbing
A tough day for the boys who once again found themselves right in the contest at half time only to be over-run in the last half. Our endeavour never dropped off which was pleasing and we had great efforts from Carl Herbstreit and Tim Roberts who showed their stint in the ‘ones’ has paid off. It was good to see ‘the Boomerang’ Mitch Hurley back to his old dashing ways and Bobby Carracher worked tirelessly all game and did all the coaches’ could ask of him.
Netballers - St Paul's V Bentleigh – Sponsored by Eva Rose Hair Salon (21-26)
Good effort by the girls but unfortunately it just wasn't enough to bring home a win. Bentleigh gained the lead early with a few quick goals and managed to stay a step ahead for the rest of the game. Eliza Barnes moved really well, she was quick off the mark and was able to clear the ball and get it moving down our end. Megan Geschke showed great stamina and versatility across the court, swapping from mid-court to defence and proving to be effective in both roles.
This is a game our girls could have won - next time round, we'll be ready!
