SENIORS
Conditions were great for football today for the big match against Thomastown. The Hills started strongly with the first two goals of the game, but a lapse in concentration allowed the Bears to hit back with 3 goals in a row. The second quarter was a fast flowing and even contest with goals going both ways and the Hills staying close to the home side at half time thanks to a long goal after the siren from Nick Lowther. Just when the Hills started to look like they were getting on top of their opponents in the third term a few things didn’t go right and the game slipped away and Thomastown kicked a string of goals to lead by 6 goals early in the last term. The final 20 point margin in favour of Thomastown could well have been greater in a match that resulted in a disappointing outcome. Brett Middleton did a great job in the ruck with Tristan Kreymborg out injured. He was helped by smallman Tyler Scarce and a hard working Nathan Hendry in the middle. Will Box stood tall all day across half back and Zac Williams and Joffa Byron provided the key focal points up forward. Suddenly next weeks match against Parkside has greater importance and paying back The Devils for a first round loss will be on the Redbacks mind.
RESERVES
The Reserves fielded a very strong side going into the clash against Thomastown, however the home side leapt to the lead by the end of the first quarter. The Hills clawed their way back into the game and held a 2 point lead by three quarter time. The last quarter was all the home sides way as their young brigade of fast runners took over and finished with a three goal win. Ben Hibberd played a great game again to push for a return to the seniors with another new player Jamie Padget also performing well. Andrew Schadendorff played well in the backline with other key players for the day including the older brigade of Brett Fitzmaurice, Dave Varano and Daniel Pratt slotting in for another 5 goals.
