THE Maroochydore Roos finished strongly against Burleigh yesterday to record their second win of the season.
Up by just two points at quarter-time, the Roos fought hard to lead by 12 points at half-time.
Burleigh narrowed the gap by the end of the third quarter to be eight points behind, before Maroochydore kicked three goals in the final stanza to record a 16.8 (104) to 12.12 (84) win.
With the bye next week, coach Brett Maloney said it was important his side got the win before the break.
"It was something we spoke about and we really wanted to go into the bye with a two-win, two-loss record," he said. "Burleigh started the game strongly and we hung in there to fight back and it was a great win by the boys."
Maloney said he was happy with his players' composure as they chased down a three-goal deficit in the opening stanza to finish ahead in every quarter.
Maloney said the side stuck to the game plan for most of the match to close out a hard-fought victory.
"We couldn't shake them for most of the match and it was a close game," he said.
"I am proud of how the team was prepared to go the distance and they showed a lot of ticker."
With a few of his players carrying niggling injuries, Maloney said next weekend's break would allow him to review the game in anticipation of the clash with Coolangatta in a fortnight.
"It'll be nice to have the week off and we will come back and see what we need to do to make life difficult for Coolangatta," he said.
Maloney said his side's standout players were Jack Gail, Michael Roberts and Jedd Turner.
