Coburg celebrated their second win of the season on Saturday, defeating Essendon 19.11.125 to 13.13.91 at Mantello Holden Oval.
The Tigers looked strong from the outset, dominating the battle in the centre through the likes of Tuck, Verrier and Foley (who is continually getting back to full fitness and starting to look very good). The strong start gave Coburg a 28 point lead at the quarter time break, with the wind assisting their cause as well as some wastefull shooting from Essendon.
The second term saw Essendon have the advantage of what was thought to be a 4 or 5 goal breeze, but it was Coburg who continued their dominance, kicking 6 goals to 4 to stretch their lead going in to half time. The Tigers midfield was again the strong point for the quarter, with Orren Stephenson providing the runners with a lot of crucial first use. Youngster Jacob Lorraine went down with an injury during the quarter which slightly soured things however.
Coburg managed to stretch their lead to a massive 67 points at 3 quarter time, a quarter which very much belonged to the Coburg midfield and a very impressive Robin Nahas. Nahas kicked 3 goals for the quarter and looked dangerous every time he neared the ball. The defence was also holding strong for Coburg, with Darrou doing a great shut down job on the in form Daniher, with help from others leaving their men to support the Coburg full back.
Essendon finally found some accendancy in the middle of the ground in the final quarter, helped by the fact that Orren Stephenson was forced off the ground and took no further part in the match. This helped them add some respectability to the final score, going down in the end by 34 points.
The most notable ball winners for Coburg were Tuck (31 possesions) and Foley (27 possesions).
