Campbelltown Reserve Grade took on Sydney Uni the only undefeated team in division 3. Conditions for a game of football couldn't be much better on a cool sunny day with a light North Easterly breeze it was a perfect day for Football. With a large crowd on stand by,was campbelltown reserve grade going to cause a major upset?? Things started well with campbelltown having the better of the first 10 minutes of the match with more clearances and tackles to their name and with three early behinds, campbelltown was almost off to the perfect start. Unfortunately the reserves couldn't maintain the pressure & Fundamental errors handed sydney uni several goals and they kicked on to lead 6.4.40 to 0.3.3 at quarter time.
The 2nd Quarter The blues fired up and outscored the opposition 13 points to 10 which was a good reply and showed that division 3 can match it and go one better than top sides this year. Matty Moore was on fire and his run form halfback was unstoppable and a wonder goal from Clint Coorey had the crowd buzzing, sydney uni on the rails and the blues on the comeback trail with the half time score 50 to 16 sydney uni's way.
The third quarter was another evenly fought contest with sydney uni having 5 scoring shots to campbelltowns 3, although they were 5 goals whereas campbelltown could only manage 1 goal 2 leaving the blues down 80 to 24 at three quarter time.
The blues continued to try hard and it was pleasing to see the return of Matty Moore who carved up all game. Also solid performances by W. Wylie, J. Kunde, G. Crompton, S. Mahina, J. Mullaney leaves plenty of room for optimism moving forward.
Next Sunday @1pm at Greygums oval Campbelltown take on 2012 4th Division Premiers Penrith Rams which will be a must win game for the blues to kick start their season. With 8 players sitting out on Saturday and 4 Players coming into Premier Division next week Positions in reserves are now at a premium and players will have to work hard and show some heart to then get selected.
