Mayne vs Springwood 18's
Final score: d 6.6 (42) v 15.10 (100)
------- Game Summary ------
After a fighting loss to Sandgate in Round 1 the 18's faced up to Mayne in the hope of getting their first win for the season. With the side still not settled and still waiting for the chance to field our full side, we were assisted by Lachlan and Ricky coming in to help out and also allowing us to have a full bench for the first time. Special thanks to Derek Berry for all his help.
The boys got off to a great start kicking 6 goals in the first quarter, and Brandon starting like a house on fire with three goals. From then on we continued to control the game with a consistent scoring effort for the rest of the game. Angus was excellent all day, and along with the other midfielders in Rowie, and Raaby they provided the drive out of the middle and from most stoppages. Ben Menz played a great game of half back and looked at home in the midfield at times. Dan Willaton was a great target all game with continuous leading and presenting. Sam Raymond got better as the game went on, finishing with a fantastic final quarter. Balmy and Benny Mac both worked hard in the ruck all day. Our backs of Wal, Nate and Reece were strong all game and set up many forward attacks with some fantastic running off the the back line.
So a great first win for the year and with continuous improvement, hopefully many more to come.

Reserves.
The reserves knew this was a 50/50 match, a loss would make it very difficult for the Pumas for the remainder of the year. The first quarter saw a good start for the Pumas with Robbie Raudinos return to the team a bonus, his efforts along with Charmo who was again playing a great game made it difficult for Mayne to score. Josh Menz was getting plenty of ball in the guts and big Sulks was doing well in the ruck. The speed of the midfield was helping get the ball into the forward line where Wolbs was creating many opportunities. Score at quarter time: Pumas 4 - 1 - 25 Mayne 1 - 1 - 7. The second quarter saw Mayne restructure their team by putting a couple of big guys across the half back line, this made it difficult to get the ball into our forward line with any fluency. The back line was under a lot of pressure, Phillips, Macca, Charmo led the way in keeping the damage to a minimum. scores at half time Pumas 4 - 3 - 27 Mayne 4 - 2 - 26.
With the game back to being even and the difficulty getting the ball forward coach Phillips made some crucial moves by putting himself and AJ into the Half Forward line with Charmo going to the full back line. The move worked a treat with the ball able to get past our half forward line to our key forwards where they could finish off. Richard Jenke and Laurie were providing great drive and speed off the wings. With the ball coming into one on one situations Big Bear and Wolbs started to dominate. Three quarter time score Pumas 8 - 4 - 52 Mayne 6 - 2 - 38. The final quarter was always going to be tough on a warm day with the legs starting to get tired, the Pumas continued on with their game plan and extended their lead to the final siren. Final Scores Pumas 11 - 6 - 72 Mayne 8 - 3- 51. Best Players for the Pumas Wolbers with 7 goals, Raudino, Jenkie, Chalmers, Menz, Morrow, Sipple, Phillips. Special Thanks to Shaneo for helping with the coaching and Buckets with the water.
Seniors
The main game of the day was next, although there were a lot of new players in the team the memory of our defeat in a practice match 3 weeks ago were fresh. Coach King knew that this was big test for the boys, a win could set up our season. The game started with the Pumas full of dash and confidently moving the ball around the ground. Sponneck was given the big job on Faulkner and as always started well against a very good player. Ruf was given the job on the key midfield players from Mayne and also was giving plenty in this shut down role. The centre clearances unlike last week were starting to click with Proudy, Thommo, Mitch and Ruffy dominating the clearances. Dom Nash was having a blinder, his precise kicking was allowing a lot of run to occur. The back line led by Blake along with Brownie were also doing a great job. The forward line pressure was extreme resulting in some poor clearances from Mayne, the Puma press was working well. Scores at quarter time Pumas 5 - 4 - 34 Mayne 1 - 3 - 9.
The second quarter was more of the same with a complete shut out by the Pumas with Mayne unable to score. It would be many years since our senior group has held out the opposition for the quarter. Although it sounds easy by the score the Pumas were working extremely hard all over the ground putting pressure on Mayne every time they got the ball. The pumas had no passengers with the team confidence rising as every week the team chemistry is coming together. Good players for the second term were BJ, Nashy, Proudy, Hoops, Boof and I could mention a lot more.
The third quarter seen Mayne throw their team about trying to get something to work, although Mayne started to score more freely the Pumas still out scored them. It was clear the game was starting to break open as tiredness set in with it only being Round 2. BJ twinged a hamstring which meant big Mitch had to do a lot of the ruck work helped out by Magilla, both performed well. Boof was having a great quarter with his composure under pressure and strength over the ball a telling factor. All of the guys continued on with their confident game style and press defence which is starting to click. Three quarter time scores Pumas 13 - 7 -85 Mayne 5 - 8 - 38
With a 47 point lead at 3/4 time the Pumas could have cruised home to a win but instead of this the boys went out and put Mayne to the sword. Although there were a lot of tired players out there the run and willingness to help out their team mates was great. The look on the Mayne supporters said it all as they were shocked with what they were seeing as the Pumas belted on 7 goals to 2 to smash their opposition. This was indeed a great week for the club with three great wins, congratulations to all involved. Final scores Pumas 20 - 9 - 129 Mayne 7 - 11 - 53 A 76 POINT WIN. Thanks to Richard and Natcam for backing up and helping with water.
Best Players in a very even team effort: Nashie, Proudie, Sponno, Boof, Blake, Big Mitch.
