It was windy enough to blow a dog off a chain at Newcomen Road on Saturday as we took on Murrumbeena.
We kicked with the aid of the strong wind in the first quarter. Adam Nichols was proving a handful early and had two goals on the board by the five minute mark of the first quarter. The visitors struck back with a valuable goal into the wind, before Rob Johnson was able to post our third for the term. The feeling at quarter time was that this was only an adequate result with the wind and that we would have to work hard in the second stanza.

That is precisely what we did. The defence led by Leighton Ross, Lance Baptist and Ben Laier repelled all that Murrumbeena could throw at them. Danny Wilson was getting on top in the ruck allowing our midfield to provide our forwards plenty of valuable opportunities into the wind. Our forwards did not let them down with Paul Norman converting twice early in the quarter. Two more goals to Rob Johnson and one to Jordan Wachter meant that we had outscored the visitors five goals to nil into the wind.

Another five goals with the wind combined with a solid defensive effort in the final quarter put the game out of Beenas reach. We were able to record a 49 point victory when the final siren rang.
Rob Johnson (five goals), Adam Nichols (three goals), and Paul Norman (three goals) were all named among the best along with Damian Stoter Rainer on the wing, Danny Wilsonin the ruck and David Ford in defence.

Pleasingly, a number of players could have been named the best. Everybody rowed their side of the boat when required.
The reserves however did not have such a happy day. Our young lads were no match for a very experienced Murrumbeena line up. New player Aidan Jolly was named best afield in his first game for the club. Paul Hill continued his good form and was named in the best along with Ash Beasy, Luke Wenke, Chris Konings and Brad Wilson.
