With a goal from Nathan Clarke in the first minute of regular play and another in the dying seconds of the last quarter to give the Hornets the lead, was enough to send the crowd into a frenzy as our boys over ran a disappointed Broadbeach outfit.
Hornets snare Win in final seconds!!!!
Leading for almost the entire game, the Cats were subject to the new never say die Aspley NEAFL squad that looks like a different team from the one that won just 4 games in 2012.
It was another fine team performance and although the Hornets were outplayed in some aspects of the game, their relentless will to win and determination shone through.
Clarke ended up with 3 valuable goals and was instrumental in the victory. But it was the young guns in Josh Wagner and James Ives that contributed all day and combined with another quality game from Ryan Matthews saw the home team win in a real nail biter.
Dylan Reid showed once again why he might just be the premier Ruckman in the competition as both he and Brendan Forbes over powered the Cats big men.
Jason Satchell was in and under in the tough conditions which suited the Canberra born player and he was well assisted by Daniel Smith who made some amazing tackles at crucial times in the game.
Robbie Copeland was moved forward in the last term with instant success booting the first goal of the last term to give the Hornets an outside chance. But when the Cats kicked the next within minutes, it was hard to see the Hornets kicking another four goals in trying conditions. A mistake from a kick in gave Matt Nickerson a tough shot from the boundary but the sharp shooter was up for it and got the margin back to 13 points.
The next goal came from a snap out of the pack from Cheynee Stiller before the Cats replied with what looked like the match winning goal.
The Cats were 11 points up at the 28 minute mark but a clearance out of the Centre and a snap out of the pack from the evergreen Nathan Clarke, injected a sliver of hope into the resurgent Hornets. With time against them it was Reid that won the free kick out of the Centre clearance and banged the ball forward. Stanley got to the fall of the ball and dished it out to Sanbury who found Clarke with a beautiful handball as he burst through the pack and kicked truly from 35 metres.
The Hornets immediately celebrated but then pushed back into defense to ensure the Cats could not spoil their best come from behind win since entering the NEAFL.
