It's been nearly five months since the Roos 2013 season got underway under new coach Brett Maloney and this weekend the seniors, reserves and U/18 will finally put their skills to the test in the home & away season against competition newcomers University.
The vibe down at Fisherman's has been great with good numbers turning out throughout the pre-season despite nearly constant rain and the inability to train on the main oval.
But after a months of drainage works the oval has reopened and should be in pristine shape as blue skies are predicted right up until Sunday.
The senior roos boys have looked solid so far during the pre-season with plenty of new faces slotting in nicely and notching up a couple of good pre-season wins against Palm Beach and Noosa.
Similarly, reserve grade squad (now named the development squad because of the numbers of youth present) had a great win against Noosa on saturday to show there will be plenty of players pushing the senior players to hold their spot.
However, all coaches will be more than aware that pre-season form counts for nothing more than a bit of match fitness and the real stuff starts this weekend in an away clash against newbies University.
University's home ground is located at Oval 7 of UQ St Lucia Campus. Allow at least 1.5 hoursto get there
Action kicks off at 10am with the Colts (18s), noon for development squad and 2pm for Seniors.
Meanwhile, the Roos third grade (division 4 north) have a had a great start to the year winning their first two rounds against Bribie Island and then Noosa. They take on Gympie at Gympie this weekend.
