With the opening game less than a week away we thought we would ask a number of the Noosa illuminati what they think 2013 will bring.
Doug Murray, Patron – “Noosa will sneak into the finals because we have several young lads coming on who will give us extra run.”
Frank Bates, Life Member, – “We have lost so many players, due to players leaving for work reasons or just moving on, that 2013 will be a test for the Club as a whole. With the wealth of talent in the Under 18s and Reserves, season 2013 will give these players a real chance to step up and grab any opportunity that is given to them”
Peter Trompf, Captain – “2013 will bring many challenges. Tigers thrive on this. There is nothing more exciting than watching Tigers challenged, especially when they take a few cubs to fight their first fight.”
Steve Smith, No 1 Waterboy – “Even with the loss of so many key and experienced players from last year I would like to think we will be competitive through 2013”
Leigh Bowes, President – “2013 is going to be see a new look senior side. This year will see many younger and local players achieve senior selection. Our club this year has focused on home grown talent which we hope is going to bring a lot of families around the Club.
Talking to long time supporters and members of the club, the best stories are told of how they watched a kid come through the juniors and end up playing seniors.
It is the beginning of developing our local culture again.
Success at our club is not always judged by the scoreboard, we want a club environment for all to enjoy. A strong grass roots club is built around families and this is our focus for 2013, be part of the Club, volunteer, support and enjoy everything Noosa AFC has to offer. “
Tony Fitzpatrick, Past Captain – “The Tigers have lost a few key players from last year so it will be a good chance for some of the 2nd tier players to step up to the plate & go to the next level. Along comes a chance for some of the U/18's to get blooded throughout the year, as well, which will develop their football & confidence. It will be a re-building year for the club & barring injuries to key players we should be very competitive throughout the year.”
Adam Eady, 100 games for Noosa (next game) – “I think this year we will exceed some expectations around the club. We’ve been a top 3 team in the league the whole time I’ve been here (since 2007) but I think people are starting to doubt our chances this year. We have some great young players stepping up and our more senior playing group (Trompf, Cubby, Jonesy, Boydle, Wince, Wulfy, Owey etc) are as good as any group of leaders we’ve had at the club in years. If we can get our game plan working well early enough in the season I think we’ll surprise a few people. The main challenge will be getting the structures and game plan working as well as previous years considering the large turnover of players. I have no doubt that it will happen; it’s just a matter of when. I’m really looking forward to being a part of a team that has some young influence again with a touch of class and experience to help guide them throughout the 2013 season and their future playing careers.”
Ashley Trompf, Past Captain Coach, Past President -"Noosa will have a compeditive side in 2013 although maybe not as powerful as when we won a couple of Premierships. Strange things happen in Noosa and you never know who might turn up to play. The club should be very proud of the young guns from 2012 who have gone on to play at a higher level; players such as Jono Freeman, Ryley Buntain and Cain Tickner. Our junior ranks are amongst the highest in Queensland, outside Brisbane and the Gold Coast and will produce senior players who will come up through the ranks in future. Fotball clubs should not be judged on the number of Premierships won, rather they should be judged on the quality of the members within and the way they develop their young members to acquit themselves well on and off the field."
Wayne "Fletch" Fletcher, Coach - "I expect 2013 to be a challenging yet very exciting year for Noosa. We could have up to four Under 18's debuting next Saturday. There will be the opportunity for some of the Reserves, such as Harry Opie, Jake Fulton and Max Paterson, to step up a level and they will have to adapt to the intensity of the senior games for the whole four quarters. Included in the team will be lots of local talent. I expect players to be committed to the team and one another. We will approach every game expecting a positive outcome and you can be sure that we will improve as the games go on. The Noosa supporters can be confident that any player that takes the field will be giving 100%."
