Though much of the focus for the West Preston Junior Football club is on developing our kid’s football skills, it is important to remember that a significant influence on how kids act and feel connected is learned through observation and participation.
Our West Preston kids will learn much from the way their parents interact, other adults around them interact (especially the West Preston Coaching Team), and the way their teammates interact with each other and the opposition. They can also learn the “West Preston Culture” through interaction with senior players with common goals.
At West, we don’t take the kid in and manage the footballer. We manage the whole kid, his context his, family his everything. We don’t choose the bits that suit us, and ignore the rest. We manage all the bits regardless of the complexity. The Triple CCC program is a great opportunity to make a difference. Our club sees a responsibility to leave every West Preston kid better than we found them
This is the responsibility of any good football club
Four key ingredients of any quality mentoring program
Care / Concern / Time / Effort
We can influence the way our West Preston kids view themselves, view others, and view their future
What is the Triple CCC program?
The Triple CCC program focuses on 3 key development areas: CAPABLITY / CONNECTION / COMMUNITY
The capability component focuses on skill development: kicking, marking, handball, general technique, balance, positioning. All of these will be relative to the kid’s age and stage of development.
The connection component focuses on personal development within a team structure: to know your role, accept your role, play your role. Put simply, understanding the concept of team and to consider your impact on others
The community component focuses on building the kids sense of belonging in the West Preston Community and the broader community: The aim is to develop a profile for the kid in his team, club and the broader Community.
The football club can often be the most structured and stable influences in some kid’s life, and it is through the Triple CCC program that we will achieve these outcomes.
How does the Triple CCC program work?
A senior mentoring team comprising of 4 players are matched with every junior side to mentor them for the 2013 season.
This mentoring team will be required to:
- attend one of the Jnr matches by each member of the mentoring team over the 2013 season (a minimum of 4 games attended in total)
- attend one training night by each member of the mentoring team over the 2013 season (a minimum of 4 training nights attended in total)
- attend junior presentation day (at least two mentoring team members to attend)
We have already seen the commitment of the snr club to the program with a significant representation on Jnr Registration Day.
What are the potential outcomes of this program?
Our jnr kids will hold the future of our club in their hands. This program seeks to influence the way the kid feels about themselves, their club, and their future.
REMEMBER
What you take out of this world gives you a living, and what you put back in gives you a life
It is great that our snr group is embracing the opportunity to make a difference and leave their fingerprints of the hearts and minds of some great kids.
Special Thanks for their great support of the program
