Further to the racial incidents that have taken place during the past week within the AFL (13 year old girl ejected from the MCG {Collingwood Magpies v Sydney Swans) for calling Adam Goodes a ‘Ape’) and Media (Eddie McGuire’s comments on radio about Adam Goodes), the SMJFL with the full support of MJFC would like to take this opportunity to reinforce the SMJFL Racial and Religious Tolerance Policy.
SMJFL has in place a Racial and Religious Tolerance Policy that can be found in Appendix 13 (pages 94-99) of the SMJFL By-Laws. Please ensure you familiarise yourself and your family with MJFC Policy version via following link https://websites.mygameday.app/club_info.cgi?client=1-4901-70192-0-0&sID=261200&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=22963855.
As part of the Policy, the commitment is as follows:
1.1. The SMJFL is committed to an environment which promotes racial and religious tolerance by prohibiting certain conduct and providing a means of redress for victims of racial and religious vilification and/or racial discrimination.
1.2 The SMJFL is bound by the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 (Vic), the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic) (“the legislation”). This Policy is consistent with, but does not substitute for, the legislation.
1.3 The SMJFL shall use its best endeavours to ensure that this Policy is communicated to all spectators and participants, and that Member Clubs receive anti-racial and religious vilification and racial discrimination training on an annual basis.
1.4 Nothing in this Policy prevents a person lodging a complaint in relation to racial and religious vilification and/or racial discrimination under the legislation.
1.5 Where a complaint is made under this policy the SMJFL shall ensure that the parties are informed of their rights.
The Policy document attached outlines all of the relevant information for dealing with Racial and/or Religious Vilification. Should you have any questions about the Racial & Religious Tolerance Policy, please contact me directly via email.
We thank the Beena Pride in advance for your ongoing support of such policy.
Regards,
Blair Beamish - President MJFC
