Coburg Football Club saved their best form till last in their final pre-season game on Saturday, defeating the Northern Blues 14.13.97 to 7.9.51 at Preston City Oval.
The Northern Blues managed to stay within striking range of the Tigers in the first half, going in to the main break just 21 points down. A huge third term by Coburg however put the game beyond any doubt. They kicked 7 goals to the Northern Blues 2 behinds to go in to ¾ time 62 points ahead. Aaron Edwards led the way in the term, monstering the Blues defence and booting 4 of his 5 goals for the day.
A large host of Richmond listed players joined Coburg for the victory, all having a big impact on the result. These players included Aaron Edwards (5 goals), Matt White (24 disposals, 6 clearances), Matt Dea (31 disposals), Orren Stephenson (32 hitouts), Chris Knights (28 disposals), with Brad Helbig, Nick Vlastuin, Brett O’Hanlon and defender Dylan Grimes also having a sound influence.
Youngster Matt Arnott unfortunately suffered a report for catching an opposition player too high during the match, but continued his stellar pre-season with 30 disposals, showing Richmond once again that he is an up and comer who they should be keeping a keen eye on.
The 46 point victory will give the Tigers a giant confidence boost heading in to their round 1 encounter with Sandringham this Sunday. The game will be played at the home of the tigers, Mantello Holden Oval at 2pm, with the development squad (def. By Northern Blues 17.11.113 to 8.6.54) kicking off at 11am. See you there!
