Epic battle ends in stalemate - MFC 0 Burleigh Heads 0
In a very intense, high quality fixture MFC and Burleigh played out a nil all draw last night at Jim Devine Field. The excellent crowd on hand witnessed an epic battle between two sides that were desperate to assert their authority over the league.
A draw was probably a fair result at the end of the day but it could so easily have been different with MFC's tireless efforts coming close but in the end to no avail. It would be unfair to single out any players because from GK and defense through to midfield and attack the quality of play and effort was outstanding. It has been a very long time, if ever, that Jim Devine Field has witnessed such two quality teams going at it hammer and tongs.
At the end of the night it was MFC who left still sitting on top of the GCPL table and undefeated four rounds in. Pinch yourself,... MFC are the real deal in 2013!
Reserve grade were very unlucky to be on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat. Against a squad that typically finishes top 2 year in, year out, MFC more than matched their much fancied rivals. The quality of football on display at times was superb and you would be forgiven for thinking that you were witnessing a 1st team PL fixture. This team is going places and with a bit more rub of the green the result could have been very different. Brent Malone chipped in again with a cracking free kick for MFC's single goal.
