EVEN as he sat in the rooms sipping a can of Carlton Draught and absorbing the disappointment of the 2012 grand final loss to Geelong, coach Gary Ayres was talking about the need for Port Melbourne to improve its depth.
The departure of so many players had finally caught up with the Borough, he said, particularly in the ruck division.
Port’s lack of support for Wayde Skipper had been exposed and exploited.
Six months on, with Port preparing to open 2013 with an away match against Werribee, Ayres thinks the club has addressed its deficiencies.
