The Tigers travelled to a ground where they have had a fair measure of success over the years and the winning trend certainly continued on the weekend. The Under 18.5's made heavy work of it early on but then settled into a comfortable tempo and were able to slot numerous goals whilst at the back, the defence held firm. There were many encouraging performances from the youngsters, some of whom are still eligible for Junior football in the local competition. Daniel Jackson and Jordan Bliss both showed plenty of deft touches, whilst at the same time they put their diminuitive frames into the action. Of the "veterans" at this level, Harry Warren, Zac Telfer and Michael Matthews all showed the type of grit required to win matches, ensuring that the Tigers will be competitive at this level in season 2013.
Likewise, the Seniors got off to rather a spasmodic start and although they had plenty of the ball, lack of accuracy in front of goal ensured that the margin didn't blow out in the initial stages. However, once this defect was rectified, goal-scoring became a regular occurence and the lead swelled to mammoth proportions. The midfield brigade generated plenty of drive and the chief instigators here were Rhys Egan, Daniel Falcone, Josh Chapman and Marcus England who took another important step in his rehab process from his horrific leg injury that blighted his 2012 season.
Up front, the sheer class of guys such as Jarrod Hayse, coach Holt and 2012 B&F winner Beau Bentley provided viable targets and they duly converted on a consistent basis. Down back the tenacity of the Van Heugten brothers in concert with the rest of the defence ensured that the opposition had very little scoring practice. The skill and passion of the younger brigade again provided an entertaining spectacle. Jaydon Stiles relished his task in the midfield and occasional foray into the attacking zone, whilst Nathan Haylock showed a fine sense of judgement at both ends of the ground. Benny Malcolm continued the development of his rucking skills whilst closer to ground level Jordan Kane, Hamish Withers, Tom Templeton and Mitch Bunworth all competed with the intensity that gladdens the hearts of the supporters. Delwyn Beavis worked his way into the game quite nicely, a very positive sign that his troublesome shoulder worries are a thing of history. Another to come into the encounter as it progressed was recruit Charlie Woodford who took some time to adjust to the tempo, but was quite in tune with it by the game's conclusion.
Overall, it was a display where the positives far outweighed the negatives and the Tigers will enjoy the Easter break before saddling up against Horsham Saints at Hanlon Park on Saturday 6th April.
