MUFC - MAZDA CUp

The 2013 Mareeba Mazda cup kicks on the 2013 FNQ Football season this weekend, with 13 teams participating from seven clubs across FNQ.

The cup for the hosting club Mareeba, will have a sense of new beginnings and a home coming of sorts, with new coach Alex Srhoj taking his first steps away club administration back into the coaching ranks, along with first cousin Wayne Srhoj signing back up for the club where it all began 20 years ago, plus former state league players Steven cater and victor Madrid returning to the premier league side after four years in the former QLD state league.

Though the older cousin Alex may be more known for his roles in bringing the QLD state league back to FNQ, it was coaching he first enjoyed, having coaching the Bulls ladies and reserve grade sides, winning coach of the year awards in both grades, while also coaching the clubs youth team over the last couple season's.

"I am pretty excited and nervous at the same time, I would like to think we have prepared as well as we could and I guess we will find out where we are this weekend" Srhoj stated. 

The clubs playing stocks have been bolstered with the return of former Melbourne Heart and Perth Glory A-league player Wayne Srhoj, along with Madrid  cater and former QSL defender Kane Aldterton, but Srhoj admits having the cattle does not mean it is not going to take hard work to make things happen. "One facet of the game we are working hard on is our commitment to the club and the supporters, we are the biggest club, we have the best supporters, and whether its a good day or bad day, our supporters will see we will always give 100% to the club" Srhoj stated.

"MUFC is club with a massive history, we owe the club every time we walk out on the park, not the other way around, we owe the club a hell of alot and we will make sure we make it count." Srhoj stated.

The action kicks off Saturday afternoon, with the main game Saturday night between last years winners the Leicahrdt Lions at 8pm, with the cup final being played Sunday arve 4pm. The men's competition sees seven teams playing three games each over Saturday and Sunday morning, with the top four then moving onto the semi and final. last years FNQ premier league champions the Douglas Dragons are making the trek to Borzi Park, along with 2012 premiers the Marlin Coast Rangers, with any of the seven teams a chance of taking out the cup.

The ladies competition is also a strong one with six out of the seven premier league clubs participating  with the Leicahrdt Lion, FNQ FC and the Edge Hill Tigers favorites for the cup, with the ladies competition being a round robin formatt, playing five game over the weekend, with the first one past the post the winner.

All games are 25 minute halves and entry for the weekend is $10 on the Saturday for the entire weekend.
