Last week we travelled to Keilor to take on the EDFL Premier Division Club who are looking to improve on their 5th place last year. The side was coached by former Collingwood great Mick McGuane. This was their 3rd practice match and final hitout prior to their season.
We were without several key personnel including Clarke, Smith & Gleeson who would make a formidable starting on ball brigade normally however it gave new coach Frankie Raso the opportunity to blood several Under 17s & 19s and some new faces to the club to see where they are at and reward those whove done the pre season.
Early signs were ominous for the Roosters as we dominated the early part of the game but failed to score on the wide expanses of Keilor Reserve. Our attack on the ball was ferocious and mentioned by McGuane after the game. However it only appeared to propel Keilor into gear and they kicked several unanswered majors prior to us getting on the scoreboard. The game favoured Keilor as they controlled the game with their superior height and we werent able to put any scoreboard pressure on them. Surprise Full Forward Dave Bonadio was a good target up forward kicking several goals before being triple teamed for the rest of the day
A highlight of the 2nd quarter saw the introduction of Wadeyre (NTFL) player Francis not sure of his last name who took the game on and managed to run with the ball and take the game on with blistering pace which encouraged the crowd to roar give it to Francis everytime he went near the ball.
The last quarter was marred by torential rain but we still managed to outscore them in that qtr then Kevin Hardy abandoned his post we knew the rain must have been heavy, Keilor however ran away with a comfortable victory.
The Reserves had only 12 players ready when they ran out onto the ground with many players unavailable but managed to grab a few as they ran around were competitive early but strength in numbers saw Keilor ran away in the concluding stages.
The 19s had the bare minimun when they started against about 28 home players and struggled early when Rizzo took a spell on their bench due to injury the boys were going to struggle however fought the gfame out well and with about 15 players due to come back after the break should be in for a good year
