West Preston young utility James McInerney wrapped up his tough pre-season campaign last Sunday by completing the Geelong Long-Course triathlon. A Long-Course triathlon consists of a 1.9 km swim, followed by a 90 km bike ride which is then followed by a 21.1 km run. Having completed his first triathlon only 3 weeks ago, James’s performance on Sunday was nothing short of unbelievable. His time of 4 hours and 45 minutes was simply amazing. To put this performance into perspective, James was only 20 minutes behind the “Professional” males. Professional male triathletes are usually full-time, sponsored athletes who have raced for somewhere between 5 to 10 years. In fact, should James pursue triathlon, we have no doubt that James could be racing at an elite level, as a “Professional” in a short period of time. Let’s hope for the Roosters sake that the young fella sticks to footy! Preparing for the Geelong Long-Course was part of James’s tough pre-season. He now enters the 2013 season with an excellent level of fitness. We know that this fitness base will take his footy to a whole new level. Great effort on the weekend Jimmy and all the best for the coming season.
