Preseason is often a time where the sense of anticipation informs most footy club conversations. With many clubs working diligently on ‘who we can get” to bolster their stocks for 2013 campaign, often we forget to reflect on “who we’ve got”.
One of the most important appointments at WPLFC for our 2013 assault came with little fanfare, and minimal fuss and bother.
Matt Sleeman has agreed to stay on as Reserve coach in 2013. Matt was a coach in demand, and his no nonsense style would have been perfect fit for a developing list in any metro competition in 2013.
He has, however decided to forego these approaches, to support our new snr coach, Frank Raso, to build a competent and capable snr list that will take us into the next 5 years of the club.
Matt will have a more hands on role across the whole list, and his knowledge and skills around preparing for game day will be a great assets to Frank Raso, and new assistant, Alex Gleeson.
For those players who have demonstrated an incredible commitment and work ethic on and off the field (particularly those reserve premiership players of 2012), you can feel confident that your deeds will not go unnoticed.
Matt is more than just a fine developer of footballers, he is a man of great intestinal fortitude that will advocate for those who deserve an opportunity to play on the big stage.
Securing Matt, also guarantees that we keep one of the most successful partnerships the club has: Matt & Turbo.
No surprise there was little fanfare, and minimal fuss and bother. Matt wouldn’t have it any other way.
