Noosa Tigers coach Wayne "Fletch" Fletcher is the latest nomination as the Noosa News' Local Legend.
In her report in the The Noosa News Ann Rickard writes that... "Fletch has been nominated not just for his inspiring leadership at the club, but for making 17 year old disabled Curtic Walsh a part of all the club stands for.
"Curtis is unforunately disabled but he is passionate about football and the footy club and wherever possible we make him feel part of the team," Fletch said.
Although Curtis, born with cerebral palsy, is in a wheelchair and unable to run or kick a footbal, thanks to Fletch's nuturing, altruistic character Curtis feels include in the game not to mention the pre-match build up and post match celebrations.
"He's a fantastic supporter of the club," Fletch who was disinclined to talk about himself, said "(What I do) is nothing speciat. It's just the normal thing to do. Curtis is always at our home games abd most of our away games. He's in the rooms witrh us and, after we've had a win, he joins in singing the club song."
Curtis's family is overwhelmed with gratitude for Fletch's example ay including Curtis, which has had a ripple effect on the other players who have embraced Curtis's involvement with the club.
"I feel very humbled by it all ( Local Legend nomination)," Fletch said, "I don't expect to be recognised. I feel fortunate to be involved with young people and not only try to improve their football skills but also their characters as people. I get a buzz out of seing friendships create and the mateship that develops from playing together. The success that comes with that is an added bonus.""
