Last season, many of the clubs playing group suffered on-field injuries effecting their personal and financial well-being. As always, our clubs primary concern is the health and well-being of its members with the objective of supporting any injured player through to recovery irrespective of the prospect of returning to the field.
The Committee has just received a letter from AFL C.E.O Andrew Demetriou and the league's Insurers JLT Sport recommending a review of the level of cover and protection under the National Risk Protection Program (see attached). Having considered the option to increase our clubs cover, the committee has decided the premiums to do so are cost prohibitive such that we're not in a position to offer you additional protection whilst you play footy without significantly increasing your membership fees. Conscious of the rising costs on every family, our priority to offer the clubs services to everybody without financial prejudice is such that (at the current membership schedule) we can only extend the base cover lever of protection (see the attached PDF files at the bottom of this article for details and refer to the JLT website for full details).
Aware that everybody's personal and financial position is different, we recommend you seek an independent evaluation on your risk (usually free of charge) and consider increasing your protection to an appropriate level (eg income protection should you be unable to work or private insurance to assist with any medical expenses). By doing so, you can then make informed choice of your personal needs and manage any financial expenses an injury can result in.
If you're unsure of who to contact, give me a call & I'd be happy to refer you to people I use to manage this risk.
Whilst we all hope for an injury free season unfortunately, this is an unavoidable part of contact sport so do yourself and your family a favour and get informed on your risks and the cost to protect you in managing them.
