Nick Edwards
As President of the Saints Footy Club the vast majority of my responsibility is dealing with great news about our club, players and community. Sadly this is not one.
Over the past six years I have ventured down to Bensons Lane to take my son to play footy with the Saints. One tends to find like interests with many of the parents-especially if our kids play in the same team. Likewise, our children strike up strong friendships, respect and bonds towards each other. The development of our boys into young adults is unequivocally rewarding.
One of the many friendships I and my family have made, as have many of you, is with Steve, Liz, Cameron, Nick and Josh Edwards.
Nick, who has played for Saints from at least the under 10's to under 16’s and to Under 18's with Nor-West Jets, tragically died in a motor vehicle accident early on Monday morning, February 14th, on the way to his first day of work as an electrical apprentice.
Nick grew into a confident young man on and off the footy field. Nick was awarded Best and Fairest of his team for many years due a natural talent of reading the game he loved to play. He also was selected to play in many representative footy sides with the Pioneers and Greater Western Sydney.
Nick was a great mentor and leader, both on and off the field, and was well respected by his peers. He always encouraged and praised his teammates, no matter the outcome.
The love shown by many people for Nick and his family at this time will, I believe, transcend our earthly bond and comfort him in heaven.
Steve, Liz, Cameron and Josh, Saints Football Club extends our deepest and heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
Vale Nicko, Saints Footy Club will always remember you.
Paul Veigel - Club President
Nick's funeral was held on Friday, 18th February, at St Matthews Catholic Church Windsor, followed by his burial at Castlebrook Memorial Park.
