FAREWELL: Police and firies together for the last ever Guns ‘n Hoses
It was a night for turning the tables at the last ever Guns ‘n Hoses Police v Fire charity football game at Noosa AFL Club last Friday night, sponsored by Bank of Queensland and Ausure Insurance.
The game was held once again in support of the local Salvation Army Xmas Appeal.
After completing a three-peat in 2009, 2010 and 2011 the Police Guns Team had the table turned when outplayed by an inspired fast-running Fire Hoses side, which took out the game with a five-goal victory despite a spirited last quarter from the Guns.
In front of the enthusiastic and supportive crowd the Hoses took charge in the first quarter and never looked back as a dominant midfield were too good for the Guns who suffered some late player withdrawals prior to the match.
The crowd witnessed some very competitive football with great skills and some hard hits all on show as both teams attacked every contest but the hoses having the superior running power were just too good on the night.
The Wobbly Boot trophy was presented for the 12th and final time, with the record showing the Guns with seven wins and the Hoses on five after the latest win.
Another table was turned in the half-time Noosa Exhaust tug of war between Noosa Pirates Rugby League Club and Noosa Dolphins Rugby Union Club. Leading into the final show down the Pirates were winless against the Dolphins who had dominated the title since inception. The Pirates would not be denied a first but final win after toughing it out in the last tug of the night, lead by the inspiring Lexie Mawn.
The crowd was also treated to the Fiona Winter Realty Skydive, Police Dog squad show and the sweet sounds of the Noosa Pipe Band during the breaks.
The local police and fire staff would like to thank all patrons and sponsors who have supported the event locally for the last 12 years, as well as the Noosa Tigers AFL club, which has supplied the facilities free-of-charge each year.
The Salvation Army has been the winner over the years with over $20,000 raised by the Guns ‘n Hoses Teams due to the event.
The organisers would like to thank the following sponsors for supporting this years event: Bank of Queensland Tewantin and Noosa Heads, Ausure Insurance Brokers, Fiona Winter Realty, Noosa Exhaust and Mechanical, Hendrie Bros, Emerald Resort, Fitness Personally, Noosa Heads Surf Club, Noosa-Tewantin RSL, Royal Mail Hotel, Noosa Colour Copying, Noosa Discount Framers, Mode Screenprints, Reef Hotel, Subway Noosa, Harvey Norman, Bunnings, Hastings Street Supermarket, Lion Nathan, Noosa Yacht Club, Tewantin Golf Club, Noosa 5 Cinemas, Pittsy and Emma’s Fruit Market, Jetts Gym, Target Country, Noosa AFL Club, Officeworks Noosaville, Sunshine Coast AFL Umpires Assn, Ramblers Skydivers, Noosa Today Newspaper, Sunshine Coast Daily, Noosa Community Radio, Noosa Police Social Club, Noosa QFRS Social Club and all supporters of the event over the years.
